Occupational Health

Portmill Occupational Health Services offer a new approach to company health care.

We can provide a custom made service to suit your business needs which can be in the form of a regular contract service or adhoc examinations tailored to suit your needs.

Many large companies benefit from an Occupational Health Department, but the provision of such a department is costly in terms of staff, equipment and provision of facilities.

Portmill now brings Occupational Health within reach of even the smallest business, whatever your health needs, as you only buy what you require as you need it.

We have the Department, the expertise and the equipment required.

Why Occupational Health is Important

Occupational Health is the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations. It aims to prevent departures from health caused by working conditions and protect workers from risks resulting from factors adverse to health.
Ensuring good health and a safe working environment is a high priority for all employers, who recognise that the wellbeing of employees improves company performance.

Work related illnesses are a major health problem in the UK. Every year 2.2 Million people in the UK are affected by Accidents or illnesses related to their work, either caused or aggravated by their workplace. Many are forced to give up their jobs and their whole way of life.

Hazards at work may not always be obvious, susceptibility to illness can vary greatly from person to person, and symptoms of illness may not appear for many years after the original contact.
Monitoring of sickness patterns, training and information, medical examinations for early detection and treatment can be most effective.

The number of claims for occupational illness and accident has risen threefold in the last five years costing employers £9.5 billion.

These never need happen.

We can help you to reduce costs due to Health issues and lost time from sickness.

  • Providing benchmarks on health before being exposed to certain types of work
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of Health and Safety measures taken, by Medical Screening
  • Regular Screening for those working in a risk situation
    • to monitor and intervene before any lasting damage occurs.

It is estimated that more than 3.5 million UK companies employ fewer than 50 people each.
